The unrest centres on a 900‑metre stretch of road between Kanthal Square and Gopal Mandir that authorities plan to widen to 15 metres to accommodate the influx of pilgrims for the Simhastha 2028 pilgrimage.
Ujjain Police said the heavy deployment is part of a broader security strategy ahead of the 2028 Simhastha, which draws millions of Hindus to the city.
The road remains closed, and the police will maintain a presence until the pilgrimage begins, according to the police statement.
