Delhi Police has mobilised a force of 6,000 officers and paramilitary units to Connaught Place on Friday, 16 October, in anticipation of a Tiranga‑themed protest by the Cockroach Janta Party at Central Park.
The CJP called on citizens to arrive at the park at 5 p.m. carrying the national flag, a move echoed by the Aam Aadmi Party which urged its workers and supporters to join in bulk.
Under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, the Delhi Police issued a prohibitory order that bars any person from entering the park or surrounding areas, warning that violators will face legal action.
The New Delhi Municipal Council confirmed that Central Park would remain closed to the general public on Friday and Saturday, citing administrative reasons, while the police were tasked with preventing unauthorised entry.
Traffic police warned commuters that routes such as Sansad Marg, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, and Janpath could face disruptions from 3 p.m. on Friday, while trade associations in Connaught Place voiced worries that the protest could dent footfall during the festive season.
In a statement to the High Court, the Delhi Police assured that it would take all necessary steps to maintain law and order, and it offered to allow a small group of 11 people to sing the national anthem while holding the flag at a suitable venue; it also urged the public to observe the law, avoid disturbances, and preserve normal daily life in the capital.
