Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a packed auditorium at the golden jubilee of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya in Chennai’s Nandambakkam Trade Centre on Thursday. He urged the city’s Gen Z attendees to become the architects of India’s future, saying the nation needs fresh ideas that will shape not only India but the world. Modi highlighted the urgency of the moment, insisting that today’s youth must dream big, think differently, and act fearlessly. He framed the message as an invitation for the next generation to seize a “big canvas” of opportunity.
During the speech Modi reminded listeners that he represents the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency, calling himself the “representative of Kashi.” He quoted poet Subramania Bharathiyar, urging the youth to live fearlessly and to “give yourselves a chance to be fearless.” The PM emphasized the limitless opportunities India offers, urging youngsters to focus on innovation and bold action. He concluded with a call to work on ideas and dream big, framing the nation’s progress as a collective mission.
The address coincided with a nationwide crackdown on student protests, as police detained around 3,000 demonstrators in Delhi and shut metro stations during a planned rally by the Cockroach Janata Party. The Supreme Court, in a hearing today, ruled that all barricades must be removed unless “absolutely warranted,” and ordered the withdrawal of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita that bans large gatherings. Delhi authorities also halted local train services amid the unrest. The court’s decision underscores the tense backdrop against which Modi sought to rally the youth.
With the 2029 general elections looming, the BJP‑led government faces a shrinking majority and a growing Gen Z dissatisfaction over unemployment and transparency. Modi’s outreach is widely viewed as a strategic move to win the support of young voters, who have already demonstrated their influence by forcing the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan after a question‑paper‑leak protest. The Supreme Court’s order will be monitored closely, with enforcement expected to be implemented in the coming days. The speech also signals the government’s intent to keep youth engagement at the forefront of its policy agenda.
