Sources said nine civilians, six Naga, two Kuki and one Nepali, were killed in clashes that erupted in Manipur's Kamjong and Kangpokpi districts yesterday.
The conflict between Kuki and Naga tribes, which began in 1992, has already claimed more than 1,000 lives, while the 2023 Kuki-Meitei clashes killed 260.
Fire broke out in dozens of houses and shops, with 30 houses damaged and several businesses destroyed.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh condemned the killings, ordered authorities to restore order and appealed to community leaders for restraint.
In a meeting in Delhi, Khemchand Singh briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the state’s efforts, urging approval of highway upgrades and elevation of RIMS to AIIMS.
A family in Kangpokpi lost their brother, now staying in a temporary shelter, illustrating the human toll.
