The protest, staged by the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), turned violent when a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable named Bikram Kumar was allegedly stabbed with a knife while escorting a protester away from a barricade. He suffered a minor injury to his right elbow and was taken to RML Hospital for treatment, while the accused was immediately detained by officers.
Protesters, carrying placards and chanting slogans such as "vote ki chori nahi chalegi," marched from the NSUI headquarters toward Jantar Mantar in a symbolic "living dead" demonstration demanding the resignation and arrest of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral irregularities. Their actions violated prohibitory orders issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
Vinod Jakhar, the NSUI national president, posted on X that Delhi Police had inflicted "utterly shameful brutality" on him and his comrades, and vowed that the struggle would continue until CEC Gyanesh Kumar stepped down. He also described the police use of batons as ineffective, asserting that the movement would persevere.
Earlier this month, Delhi Police had registered multiple FIRs in connection with October 2 protests at Jantar Mantar, invoking Sections 223(a), 221, 132, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to address disobedience, obstruction, assault, and collective intent. The police are now scrutinizing CCTV footage and other evidence to establish the sequence of events.
