Punjab Congress has named Pargat Singh as its new PPCC president during a Sunday ceremony in Chandigarh, 5 months before the 2027 Assembly elections.
The gathering, held at the party headquarters, saw senior leaders such as former PPCC chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, ex‑Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa unite under Singh’s banner. Rain drizzled over the stage, but workers pressed on, chanting slogans and holding umbrellas.
Sachin Pilot, who opened the proceedings, praised Singh’s teamwork record and urged the party to rally behind national leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. Warring, despite past factional rifts, declared his loyalty to Rahul Gandhi and called for a united front, while Channi likened Singh’s leadership to a hockey captain guiding a team to victory.
With the announcement, Punjab Congress has laid a blueprint for a coordinated campaign, pledging to tackle AAP’s governance record. The party will now focus on consolidating grassroots support across the state as the election battle intensifies.
