On Tuesday, India's Defence Ministry and AI start‑up Sarvam inked a Memorandum of Understanding to develop, deploy and support AI solutions for the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.
Under the pact, Sarvam’s Chanakya division will design applications for operational, training and decision‑support needs, while HQ IDS will coordinate the integration across the tri‑service ecosystem.
The agreement fits into the Ministry’s Atmanirbharta push, which seeks to indigenise defence tech across platforms and keep AI on sovereign infrastructure.
Both parties will share access to foundation models such as Sarvam 105B, an agentic infrastructure and geospatial perception tools, allowing lessons learned in one service to cascade to the others.
Sarvam’s co‑founder Pratyush Kumar said, ‘Sarvam exists to build AI in India, for India. Working with the three Services is an honour and privilege.’
Implementation will begin later this year, with the first pilot projects slated for the Army’s 10th Infantry Division in Rajasthan and the Navy’s Carrier Strike Group in Visakhapatnam.
