An FIR was lodged against BJP booth agent S Balachander on Oct 6 after he attempted to delete 30 Muslim voters from the Musheerabad assembly constituency’s electoral roll. The agent allegedly used pre‑printed Form‑7 applications submitted on Sept 28 at Polling Station No. 210. According to the complaint, the 30 voters were all Muslims, including Congress BLA Shafiuddin and his relatives. Musheerabad Electoral Registration Officer T Praveen Kumar Reddy filed the complaint after noticing the bulk submissions. Police charged Balachander under Sections 217 and 318(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act. The case marks the first Telangana police action linked to alleged Form‑7 misuse during the Special Intensive Revision.
Balachander reportedly brought the pre‑printed Form‑7 forms to the polling station but the booth level officer and supervisor refused to accept them. He allegedly left the documents at the station and walked away. A field verification on Oct 1 confirmed that all 30 voters were residing at the addresses recorded in the electoral roll. The list included Shafiuddin’s family members who are active Congress supporters. The verification was conducted by election officials who cross‑checked the addresses with voter registration data.
The incident follows a series of similar reports from Bahadurpura and Goshamahal constituencies, where pre‑printed applications were allegedly filed against Muslim voters. On Oct 5, Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy directed officials to act against anyone found to have knowingly submitted false statements in Forms 6, 6A, 7 or 8. Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has written to the CEO alleging a similar pattern in Goshamahal, citing pre‑printed Form‑7 applications targeting Muslim voters.
The BJP has rejected the allegations, saying the party is not involved in a voter deletion drive and that evidence must go through the legal process. A party spokesperson said the accusations were politically motivated and urged authorities to investigate impartially. The party has asked for transparent documentation before any punitive action.
Police will now probe whether Balachander conspired to remove voters and whether the actions violate electoral laws. A court hearing is expected in the coming weeks to determine criminal liability and potential electoral penalties.
