More than 150 opposition MPs are set to sign a memorandum at a lunch meeting on Wednesday, aiming to press President Droupadi Murmu for the removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
The move follows a high‑voltage protest earlier this week, when the INDIA bloc attempted to march from Parliament to the Election Commission headquarters, only to be halted by police and subsequently detained.
Sources within the INDIA bloc told Times Now that the protest shifted to Akashvani Bhavan, where Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other leaders staged a sit‑in before being taken into custody.
The Election Commission maintains that no party had formally requested an appointment before 4 pm on Tuesday, insisting that delegations must seek meetings through authorised representatives and hold them at its premises.
Waiting for an appointment, the opposition expects a meeting with the President by Friday; if denied, it is preparing a fresh protest march.
The campaign has expanded beyond Congress, with the Aam Aadmi Party joining the coalition of parties outside the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer's office, amplifying calls for the CEC's resignation on grounds of alleged vote‑tampering.
The next development will be the Friday meeting, after which the opposition will decide whether to mobilise another march or pursue further legal avenues.
