Union minister Kiren Rijiju posted on X on October 12, 2026, accusing the Kerala Congress of targeting the judiciary after the Election Commission. The tweet quoted a screenshot of a Kerala Congress post that threatened the Chief Justice of India and demanded his resignation.
Chief Justice Surya Kant had earlier told reporters that law and order was not his domain, a statement he made on the sidelines of an event in Delhi. The remarks came after Delhi mobilized over 20,000 security personnel to guard against protests by the Cockroach Janta Party.
The Kerala Congress deleted the tweet shortly after it was posted, but the screenshot spread across social media. In a statement, the party said the post had been taken out of context.
Tejasvi Surya posted a comment on X, calling the Congress ‘anarchists’ who aim to attack the judiciary if they lose elections. Sudhanshu Trivedi echoed the sentiment, saying the Congress was ‘preparing to strike constitutional institutions’.
The BJP has announced it will file a formal complaint with the Supreme Court and press for a parliamentary debate on the alleged threat to judicial independence. The complaint is expected to be filed before the next parliamentary session on November 3, 2026.
