The march, which began in the heart of New Delhi, was a continuation of nationwide protests sparked by a recent rape of a minor in Kalkaji that drew thousands of demonstrators demanding stronger campus safety measures.
Jannat Bishnoi, a second‑year BA student at Shyama Prasad Mukherji College, has been active in campus politics and was seen standing beside Rahul Gandhi, waving slogans and demanding CCTV coverage and a dedicated police presence for women.
Meanwhile, Congress leadership filed a petition with the Supreme Court challenging the Chief Election Commissioner’s Special Intensive Revision of the electoral rolls, alleging irregularities and “vote theft.”
The police, citing crowd control concerns, stopped the march after a brief march, forcing the leaders onto a truck that carried Rahul Gandhi, his wife Priyanka, and Jannat.
Following the halt, Rahul Gandhi approached the Supreme Court building and lodged an interim stay petition, seeking a temporary suspension of the revision process until a full hearing could be conducted.
The court has yet to set a hearing date, but the filing is expected to trigger a quick response from the Election Commission, which has defended the revision as a necessary measure to ensure electoral integrity.
