Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer, Anindita Mitra, unveiled the state’s final electoral rolls on Monday, listing 2,01,00,727 voters after a month‑long Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The exercise, which began on 25 June following a May 14 notification, aimed to purge obsolete entries and add new ones. Compared with the draft published 13 August, the final roll shows a net rise of 3.64 per cent.
SIR’s mandate was to identify deaths, permanent migration, absent voters and duplicate entries. The process saw 35,49,036 notices served, with 86,038 voters ultimately deemed ineligible.
The revision also added 7,97,263 new electors, bringing the total from 1,93,94,435 to 2,01,00,727. Among those added was a farmer in Ludhiana who had been omitted from earlier rolls.
The updated rolls will shape campaigning for the February 2027 Punjab Assembly election, as parties recalibrate their outreach to the expanded electorate.
