On Thursday, at a rally marking the first anniversary of the September 24, 2025 violence in Leh, Sonam Wangchuk called for Amit Shah’s resignation, citing the police firing that left four civilians dead.
He warned that security forces had threatened an encounter and that he was prepared to accept such a fate to awaken the nation.
Wangchuk insisted the judicial inquiry, headed by former Supreme Court judge B S Chauhan, keep its findings confidential, and if the report is withheld, he plans to set up a people’s tribunal.
Ladakh police denied the allegations, describing them as false and claiming that less than 800 people attended the memorial, with no interference in attendance.
The activist linked the violence to Ladakh’s long‑standing demands for statehood under the Sixth Schedule, arguing that promises made to the region have been broken.
The next day, the government is expected to release a statement on the inquiry report, while opposition parties have called for a parliamentary debate on the incident.
