Delhi High Court on Thursday demanded a reply from Delhi Police and PWD minister Parvesh Verma regarding an alleged slapping of an AAP worker during a road inspection in Tilak Nagar on September 27.
Justice Sachin Datta, presiding over the case, directed the respondents to file a status report and questioned the maintainability of the petition, which also sought police protection for Sahib Singh and his family.
Parvesh Verma, who oversees the Public Works Department, is accused of hurling an associate of Tilak Nagar AAP MLA Jarnail Singh—who manages the MLA's social media accounts—during the inspection, an act that sparked the current row.
The court has set November 17 for the next hearing; Delhi Police and Verma are expected to submit their replies by then, a move that could trigger a formal inquiry and affect Verma’s political prospects.
Sahib Singh, the alleged victim, says he was grabbed in public and demands accountability, while local residents in Tilak Nagar watch the proceedings with growing concern.
