Delhi Police detained three CJP leaders after their flight landed in the capital on Saturday, seizing their phones without issuing a seizure memo.
The trio—Saurav Das, Abhijeet Dipke and Ashutosh Ranka—were en route to a planned protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
At a press conference the next day, Das said the police had illegally detained them without formal notice and denied them access to a lawyer.
Das warned that the seized devices could have been hacked or cloned, echoing past incidents involving activists.
Ranka added that the situation resembled the Emergency, citing cancelled trains and police harassment that hindered protesters from reaching Delhi.
An executive magistrate court released the leaders, and the CJP now vows to continue demonstrations until Chief Election Commissioner Kumar resigns.
