Commissioner DS Ramesh directed city officials to begin urgent repairs on the Varthur‑Gunjur stretch of Bengaluru on Thursday, spurred by an NDTV report that showcased crumbling roads and gridlocked traffic.
The directive prioritised filling potholes at Varthur Junction, fixing the culvert slab on Gunjur Road, and establishing a smoother entry‑exit system at Gunjur Palya. Officials will also explore an alternate route to ease vehicle movement.
NDTV’s footage highlighted how commuters, especially school buses, were trapped in a two‑hour jam on a five‑kilometre corridor. Parents reported that several children were stuck for more than two hours after school, underscoring the urgency of the repairs.
The commissioner’s orders include strict action against illegal waste dumping and close coordination with traffic police during the repair works. The city’s traffic‑management unit will monitor traffic flow and adjust signals as needed.
