Delhi University’s DUSU election, concluded on May 28, 2026, saw ABVP win three of the four central panel posts, securing the presidency for Yash Dabas with 24,576 votes and a 2,053‑vote margin over NSUI’s Vijai Shankar Meena. Independent Deepanshu Shokeen captured the vice‑presidency with 30,615 votes after being denied an NSUI ticket, while ABVP’s Lakshya Raj Singh and Riya Chhawdi won the joint secretary and secretary positions with 16,615 and 21,650 votes respectively.
CJP co‑convener Saurav Das, reacting on X, blamed the fractured student vote for enabling ABVP’s sweep. He argued that a divided electorate, even though it expressed discontent with the current regime, fragmented the opposition’s strength.
Das warned the newly elected officers that they were not "kings or queens", reminding them that the majority did not elect them. He further criticised Congress for failing to reorganise its ranks after twelve years of stagnation.
The independent win of Shokeen underscores the growing dissatisfaction with party ticket allocations, while the narrow losses of NSUI candidates in the presidential and joint secretary races illustrate the cost of internal discord. The left’s focus on ideological purity, Das said, has left many voters unrepresented.
The outcome compels opposition parties to rethink their strategies before the next state elections, or risk being sidelined once more.
