In a hearing on Monday, the Supreme Court denied any order that would bind additional sessions judges in the Ram Temple donation theft case, while demanding that the Special Investigation Team furnish a copy of the chargesheet upon filing.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the bench that the SIT expects to file the chargesheet before September 25, within 90 days of the first accused’s arrest, and warned that failure to do so could lead to the accused being released on default bail.
The SIT’s status report, which the Court reviewed, lists strong evidence against eight accused, including CCTV footage, mobile data, and proof of an unexplained cash deposit in the temple’s accounts, and notes that 803 valuable items are missing.
The Court will sit again next month to consider the case and decide whether to impose further restrictions on the trial court’s jurisdiction.
