Ratna Singh, the legal affairs chief of the Cockroach Janta Party, filed a petition with the Delhi High Court today demanding an immediate bail hearing for party co‑convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were recently placed in judicial custody by the state.
On X, Singh posted, "Saurav and Ashutosh should not spend a single minute behind bars," labeling the state’s decision as a "political game" that should not curtail the duo’s liberty.
The petition seeks to overturn the court’s earlier order that extended the pair’s custody for an additional 30 days pending trial. Singh’s legal team argues that the extension is politically motivated and infringes on their rights to a fair trial.
The Delhi High Court has accepted the application, a move that could fast‑track the bail hearing to a date within the coming weeks. The court’s decision will be announced in a hearing scheduled for the next session.
If granted bail, Das and Ranka would be able to resume public activities for the Cockroach Janta Party, which has previously faced criticism for its aggressive stance against alleged corruption in state projects.
The outcome of the hearing will have implications for the party’s campaign strategy and for the broader debate around judicial independence in politically charged cases.
