Yuva Golden Chhatra Samiti hung effigies of Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla at a Durga Puja pandal in Gorakhpur on October 15, 2025, following the Meerut court's 590‑day verdict. The display, set against a haunted cave with demon effigies, marks a stark reminder of the Blue Drum murder.
The pair, convicted for the 2023 Blue Drum murder in Meerut, drugged, stabbed, and dismembered merchant navy officer Saurabh Rajput before depositing his remains in a blue drum sealed with wet cement. The court delivered its verdict 590 days after the crime, sentencing both to death. The case had long dominated headlines, with families demanding justice.
Shivam Chaudhary, a member of the organising committee, said the tableau underscores that criminals must face consequences. "We are satisfied with the verdict," Chaudhary told reporters, adding that the display aims to educate passers‑by. He noted that the committee had learned of the verdict on the same day and reacted swiftly.
The effigies, alongside demon figures, have become a major attraction, drawing crowds and sparking debate over celebrating justice at a festive setting. Police officer Arjun Kumar warned of possible unrest, saying the display could inflame emotions. Locals argue the display is a necessary reminder of law and order.
Police have ordered increased security at the pandal for the rest of Durga Puja, deploying additional officers and surveillance. The committee plans to use the tableau as an educational tool, hoping visitors will learn about crime and justice. The festival will continue, but authorities remain vigilant.
