KC Venugopal, a senior Congress MP, unveiled a nationwide "Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao" campaign on Monday in Delhi, demanding the immediate removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
He spoke after a Central Working Committee meeting at the AICC headquarters, where Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge urged the party to sustain pressure on the Election Commission.
The Supreme Court’s Monday observations that the CEC was giving conflicting signals about the electoral rolls prompted Venugopal to threaten that the CEC would not remain in office.
Venugopal also asked Delhi Police not to block MPs from the march, insisting that they have the right to represent the party’s stance peacefully.
The campaign’s timetable, announced in a press briefing, will see bike and cycle rallies from October 10 to 20, village‑level outreach to November 25, a mass rally on November 1 at Ramlila Maidan, and six yatras on November 25‑26 under the "Chalo Delhi" programme.
While the opposition will march from Parliament House to the Election Commission on October 6, AAP leader Sanjay Singh said his party would abstain from the protest, preferring to fight its own battle.
