EUFOR’s Italian CH‑47 Chinook plunged into a field near Brcko, Bosnia, on Thursday, killing three crew members and wounding twelve others. No civilians were harmed, and the crash site shows a largely destroyed helicopter on a lawn.
EUFOR officials said the aircraft suffered a catastrophic failure and that an investigation was underway. The ministry of security confirmed no civilian infrastructure or vehicles were damaged.
The Brcko district mayor, Sinisa Milic, relayed the same figures to Bosnian Serb RTRS television and noted one victim in critical condition.
EUFOR, a 1,200‑soldier mission that replaced NATO in 2004, operates under a UN Security Council mandate to enforce the 1995 peace agreement.
The investigation is expected to conclude by the end of the month, with a full report on operational safety and any technical faults to be issued to the EU Parliament.
