Won’t she feel uncomfortable?" He captured the exchange on video and uploaded it to Instagram under @official_tajmahal.photography.
The clip quickly went viral, amassing 3.8 million views and 200,000 likes within 48 hours. Comments poured in, with many praising the photographer’s courage. A Spanish tourist from Madrid, who had been the subject of the staring, shared that she had faced similar discomfort during previous visits and thanked the photographer for speaking up.
India welcomed 17.8 million foreign visitors in 2023, making tourism a key pillar of the economy. Yet reports of disrespectful conduct at heritage sites have risen, prompting the Ministry of Tourism to issue new guidelines for visitors. The incident has reignited that conversation on public civility and the responsibilities of both tourists and locals.
