BJP President Nitin Nabin slammed Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly conspiring with foreign forces to create anarchy during a protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, May 27, 2023. He claimed the opposition’s “cockroach” tactics aimed to seize the capital and destabilise the nation.
Sambit Patra, a senior BJP leader, called the protest a “flop show” and said democracy had triumphed over mob rule after 7,000 people, including several politicians, were detained to prevent participation. Patra also labelled Gandhi a “traitor” and accused him of welcoming Elon Musk’s Starlink project, which the party had questioned.
Ravi Shankar Prasad, another BJP veteran, accused the Congress and AAP of weaponising street protests following electoral defeats. He warned that the opposition’s “shadow boxing” would be met with a stern response from the government and that the country would be run from Parliament, not the streets.
The protest, organised by the so‑called Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), was aimed at Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and called for a “vote chori” allegation against the INDIA bloc. The CJP’s mobilisation led to a police crackdown that saw 7,000 detainees, many of whom were opposition supporters and local activists.
Opposition leaders have remained silent on the accusations, but the BJP’s hard‑line stance signals a broader campaign to curb dissent. The government has announced it will file criminal charges against Gandhi and Kejriwal, and a court hearing is expected to be scheduled within the next two weeks.
