The new Kharkhoda plant will churn out up to 1 million fuel tanks each year by 2031. That’s a production line that could keep Maruti’s Assembly lines humming across the north.
OPmobility, already the biggest fuel‑tank supplier in India, has been feeding more than a third of the country’s cars for years. Partnering with Maruti and Suzuki Motor Corp. gives the automaker a direct hand in the supply chain, cutting out middlemen and reducing lead times.
For buyers, the trickle‑down effect is two‑fold: tighter supply can mean steadier prices, and a smoother rollout of new trims like the Alto Next or the Swift VXI. If the plant ramps up on schedule, we might see fewer delays in getting the latest safety features onto the showroom floor.
The move also dovetails with Delhi’s push for domestic battery manufacturing under the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan. While the plant focuses on fuel tanks, OPmobility is also slated to produce energy storage systems, positioning it to support the EV shift without a full retool.
The facility opened in July, with full production slated for the end of 2025. Keep an eye on Maruti’s sales reports next quarter; any uptick could signal that the new supply line is already easing bottlenecks.
