India's electric two‑wheeler registrations jumped 85% year‑on‑year to 2,03,411 units in September 2026, taking first‑half FY27 volumes past the 1 million milestone.
TVS Motor led the surge with 53,989 registrations, up 126% YoY and 10% month‑on‑month, capturing 26.5% of the market. Bajaj Auto followed with 48,383 units, a 139% rise, narrowing the gap to 23.8% share.
Hero MotoCorp registered 24,305 units, 83% YoY, while Ola Electric slipped to 13,449 units, a 3% drop. Smaller outfits like Greaves Electric and River Mobility saw double‑digit growth, with 9,317 and 5,549 units respectively.
For buyers, the expanding roster means more choices across price points, from ₹12,000‑class scooters to ₹30,000‑plus premium models. Competition has pushed manufacturers to introduce varied battery capacities, charging solutions, and after‑sales networks.
The government’s EV mandate, which requires a 30% EV share in new two‑wheelers by 2026, plus reduced import duties on batteries, has helped push volumes. Analysts say the market could surpass 2 million registrations in FY27 if the current 8.91 lakh growth rate for Oct‑Mar holds.
Looking ahead, manufacturers are slated to roll out new variants in Q4 2026, with city‑wide availability expected in metros like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore by early 2027. Buyers should watch for battery‑range updates and price adjustments as the market matures.
