In Palvancha, Telangana, the Kapu community and the Team Ekadanta group unveiled two Ganesh idols draped in ₹2.9 crore of fresh Indian currency notes during the week of Ganesh Chaturthi, 2024.
The Kapu members used ₹1.4 crore in notes ranging from ₹10 to ₹500, while the Ekadanta installation featured ₹1.5 crore, including a garland and crown made entirely of currency.
Local traders supplied the money, and bankers provided fresh notes for the elaborate displays, according to the organisers. The idols attracted crowds of thousands and became a highlight of the festival.
This follows a pattern seen in 2023 and 2024, when the Kapu Sangham Ganesh Utsav Committee and other groups decorated idols with cash worth up to ₹1.5 crore. Officials anticipate the trend will likely continue next year as similar displays were used in 2023 and 2024.
