Former Union Minister of State and Arunachal Pradesh MLA Ninong Ering urged all stakeholders to sit down and review the Pre‑Feasibility Report for the proposed Siang dam after a local house was vandalised during the latest wave of protests.
Ering stressed that the PFR is essential to understand which villages could be submerged and how the dam would affect livelihoods, especially in light of China’s own dam projects upstream.
He warned that while peaceful agitation is a right, the movement must not devolve into looting or property damage, citing the presence of youths from Siang and Upper Siang who may have been misled by external agitators.
In addition to calling for dialogue, Ering urged the Union Ministry of Water Resources to initiate a bilateral water‑treaty discussion with China, arguing that downstream communities need a clear legal framework.
