Russian embassy in Belgium warned NATO that attempts to isolate Kaliningrad would trigger a direct military confrontation, saying Moscow has enough weapons to defend the exclave.
The warning follows a NATO air exercise in northeastern Poland last month, involving 25–50 aircraft, including US and Norwegian fighters, an E‑3A Sentry AWACS, and a US electronic‑warfare plane.
Kaliningrad sits between Poland and Lithuania, making it strategically sensitive; Moscow considers any isolation an act of aggression against Russian territory.
The embassy said it had raised its concerns with the NATO International Secretariat and the Belgian Foreign Ministry, urging member states to refrain from escalatory rhetoric.
NATO has yet to issue a formal response, and the European Council is expected to review the exercise’s implications in the coming days.
