Tata Motors has officially pulled the trigger on the Aeris, the long-awaited replacement for the Tigor, and the pricing is the headline act here. Starting at ₹5.29 lakh for the petrol variant and ₹6.29 lakh for the CNG option, this isn't just a new car; it's a strategic pivot. Tata is explicitly trying to peel customers away from the premium hatchback segment, betting that a sedan with six airbags as standard will feel like a better value proposition than a Swift or i20. The brand has also cleaned up its lineup, reserving the Aeris strictly for private buyers while the Xpres continues to handle fleet duties.
While the passenger car news grabs attention, the commercial vehicle sector just got a serious jolt. JSW Greentech launched Ampstar, its electric truck and bus brand, unveiling a 55-tonne tractor-trailer and an electric bus. This isn't a pilot project; the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility has an initial capacity of 15,000 heavy electric commercial vehicles a year. Management is targeting 500-1,000 units in the current financial year, with an ambitious goal of 100,000-truck capacity by 2030. At full utilization, that ₹2,500-crore plant could generate ₹12,000 crore in annual revenue.
On the technology front, Suzuki is signaling a major shift in how it approaches India. The automaker is developing a lower-cost ADAS system built around cameras and integrated electronics, aiming to make advanced driver assistance standard even on affordable models. They are also cooking up a plug-in range-extender for compact cars and a new direct-injection turbo engine. The goal? Cut vehicle weight by 100 kg and halve development time by 2030. Meanwhile, Honda is reportedly in talks to source a 1.2-litre engine from Horse Powertrain for a future compact SUV, with hybrid and CNG options on the table.
The luxury and niche segments didn't sit idle either. Mahindra refreshed the Thar OG, starting at ₹10.32 lakh with a revised platform and suspension. At the top end, Mercedes-Benz confirmed the facelifted Maybach S-Class will launch in India on October 5. It’s a busy week that signals a tightening market: Tata is pushing volume with safety, JSW is betting big on electric logistics, and the Japanese giants are prepping their next generation of tech.
