Skoda Slavia production kicks off at the Chakan plant in Pune, just in time for the 2026 festive rush. The updated sedan now rides an 8‑speed torque‑converter automatic paired with a 1.0‑liter TSI engine, a first for the segment. Since its launch, the Slavia has already sold close to 80,000 units and commands roughly 30% of the compact‑sedan market in India.
Beyond the gearbox, the Slavia gets a host of tech upgrades. A 360‑degree Area View camera replaces the usual surround‑view, while a new AI Companion on the infotainment screen, powered by Google Cloud, offers contextual suggestions. The rear‑seat massage function, a first among its peers, turns long drives into a spa‑like experience.
In the 1.5‑litre sedan arena, the Slavia now competes head‑on with the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Aura. While the Swift and Aura stick to a 5‑speed manual or a 6‑speed automatic, the Slavia’s 8‑speed gearbox gives it smoother gear changes and better fuel economy. Safety remains unchanged, retaining five‑star Global NCAP credentials.
SAVWIPL’s Chakan facility, one of two plants in India, contributes to a combined annual capacity of 315,000 vehicles. With over two million locally produced cars in 2025 and 725,000 exported worldwide, the plant underscores the company’s expanding footprint. The new Slavia’s launch ahead of the festive season is a strategic move to capture the holiday‑spurred surge in sedan sales.
The first batch of Slavia’s will roll off the line in late 2025, hitting showrooms across metros by early 2026. Buyers will want to test the new gearbox and AI features, while analysts will watch how the sedan stacks against rivals on price and driving dynamics. Keep an eye on upcoming variant trims and any premium add‑ons that could shift the value equation.
