Rahul Gandhi declared that the protest would be a "Tandava"—no plan, no schedule—immediately after police disrupted a march against the Election Commission.
He turned the Akashvani Bhawan campus into an impromptu sit‑in that stretched late into the evening, defying police orders to disperse.
The Congress bloc is now set to march to the Supreme Court, demanding the removal of Gyanesh Kumar and, according to Gandhi, the Prime Minister and Home Minister from the Election Commission’s decision‑making.
In a press conference, Gandhi compared the protest to the Bharat Jodo Yatra, describing it as a unifying, heart‑driven movement that transcends political lines.
He urged that all protests be treated as a single, collective stand against what he calls a dangerous SIR process that threatens the integrity of the electoral rolls.
The next phase will see the protestors arrive at the Supreme Court on Friday, where they intend to file a petition challenging the legality of the SIR.
