At 17:30 on 8 October, Pawan Sharma, 48, was seated with his mother on a senior‑citizen seat in a Delhi Metro carriage when Sanjay Pratap Singh, a retired IAS officer, and his son entered the compartment.
Durga Devi, Sharma’s mother, told NDTV that the duo confronted him, with Singh’s son choking him and Singh punching him in the chest, killing him on the spot.
Singh, a 1984 batch AGMUT cadre officer, served in Delhi and several Union Territories for more than thirty years, while his son is a practising lawyer.
Police arrested both men at the Mandi House station and placed them in fourteen‑day judicial custody pending investigation.
The Delhi Police said they are collecting CCTV footage and forensic evidence to establish the motive behind the assault.
The case will be forwarded to the Sessions Court, where the accused are expected to appear in the coming weeks.
