Pezeshkian told the UN General Assembly on Friday that Iran wants to revive the memorandum of understanding reached with the United States in June, a pact that was meant to lay the groundwork for a full peace deal but collapsed after the US and Israel launched attacks on the country in late February.
He added that China has expressed a similar desire to see the agreement restored, posting on X that "Iran shares this approach and underscores the importance of returning to that understanding."
A day earlier, in a defiant address to the world body, Pezeshkian said Iran would not "bend at the knee" to Washington and that the country did not wish to continue the war, but it was up to the United States to end it.
In the meantime, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with US envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential son‑in‑law Jared Kushner on the sidelines of the General Assembly, but the talks did not immediately yield a breakthrough.
The next phase will unfold at the UN General Assembly, where Iranian officials and Washington representatives will try to determine whether the June memorandum can be revived or if a new framework is required.
