Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation for a ₹325‑crore Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre in Bhildi, Gujarat, on Friday, marking a key step in the state‑wide dairy upgrade plan.
The 127‑acre facility, built by Banas Dairy with technical guidance from the National Dairy Development Board, will employ in‑vitro fertilisation and embryo transfer to enhance indigenous breeds such as Kankrej, Gir, Sahiwal and Tharparkar.
According to Banas Dairy chairman Shankar Chaudhary, the centre will generate 25,000 high‑quality embryos each year and offer affordable semen and breeding services to farmers, a move that could raise milk output while keeping maintenance costs low.
Modi also highlighted the ₹4.5‑lakh‑crore PM‑Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, stressing that the government has shielded farmers from rising fertilizer prices amid global uncertainties.
The prime minister will soon inaugurate five additional Banas Dairy projects in Bhildi, signalling a broader push to modernise dairy infrastructure across Banaskantha.
Observers say the new centre could set a benchmark for animal‑health initiatives nationwide, but farmers will wait for the first batch of embryos before measuring the tangible impact.
