If you’re looking to own a car that can drop seconds off a track lap, the new Ferrari 296 GT Modificata is the answer. It weighs just 1,330kg and roars 730hp from a 2.99‑litre V6, making it a lighter, more punchy version of the standard 296.
Ferrari’s own data shows the Modificata can lap the Fiorano circuit about three seconds faster than the 296 GT3 Evo. That’s a tangible advantage if you’re competing in private races or club events. The extra downforce comes from a redesigned front splitter and a larger rear wing with a Gurney flap, keeping the car stable at high speeds.
Under the hood, the twin‑turbo V6 is paired with a six‑speed sequential gearbox and a carbon clutch. Cooling and braking have been beefed up; front brakes feature larger ventilation and the car runs on 18‑inch racing tyres. All of these tweaks help keep heat in check during long stints on the track.
The Modificata is sold only to members of Ferrari’s Club Competizioni GT programme and will be produced in limited numbers. A purchase includes two years or 12 rounds of the club’s circuit programme, giving owners ready access to international tracks. The vehicle was revealed at Ferrari Racing Days in Budapest, but a public launch date has not yet been announced.
