Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut the ribbon on Arvind Limited’s new garment manufacturing unit in Varanasi on Sunday, October 25, 2026. The facility is a predominantly women-led operation designed to plug the local textile sector into global supply chains. It’s a strategic move. The plant will produce apparel for Arvind’s international client base, boosting Uttar Pradesh’s industrial profile and creating manufacturing jobs for women in the region. This isn't just about clothes. It’s about positioning Varanasi as a serious hub for industrial investment and workforce participation.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh welcomed the Prime Minister to the city, framing the visit as a symbol of a "resurgent India." Singh said the upcoming aerial display would showcase the "valour and might" of the Indian Air Force. In a post on X, he described Varanasi as a beacon of self-reliance, noting that the 94th IAF Day celebrations would put the force’s capabilities on full public display. The minister’s remarks set a high political and patriotic tone for the day’s events.
The centerpiece of the day is the 'Wings Over Ganges' aerial display at Namo Ghat. The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) and the Sarang Helicopter Display Team are already in the air, running pre-event rehearsals. The lineup is heavy. Pilots will fly the indigenous Tejas, the LCH Prachand, and frontline fighters like the Su-30MKI and Rafale. Large transport aircraft, including the IL-76, IL-78, C-295, and AN-32, will also feature. Indian Navy and Army aircraft will join the formation, emphasizing joint operations.
Following the ground events, Modi is scheduled to travel to Arvind Mills by Army helicopter. He will then head to Namo Ghat to preside over the IAF Day event as Chief Guest. The ceremony marks the 94th anniversary of the Indian Air Force, a milestone that draws thousands of local residents and party workers to the riverbanks. The day caps a high-visibility week for the government, blending industrial policy with military showcase.
