Chief Ravindra Chavan led a two‑day tour of Pune Division, launching the BJP campaigns for Dr. Smita Yogesh Jadhav in the Graduates constituency and Kaustubh Gawade in the Teachers constituency ahead of the May 2024 MLC elections. The launch was held at a grand convention with BJP‑Mahayuti office‑bearers and workers. Chavan outlined a tight booth‑level plan and urged officials to accelerate voter registration.
During the visit, Chavan convened organizational review meetings with core committees from Pune City, Pune Rural, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur and Solapur. He delivered specific instructions on resource allocation, volunteer training and meticulous booth‑level planning. The meetings also focused on synchronizing campaign messaging across districts.
An important meeting with the Maharashtra State Old Pension Coordination Association saw officials submit a memorandum demanding the continuation of the old pension scheme for teachers and non‑teaching staff. The association pledged full support for both BJP‑Mahayuti candidates in the Pune Division. Chavan said the party would negotiate the pension issue with the state government.
In Kolhapur and Solapur, independent candidate Nandkumar Sagar withdrew his nomination and announced backing for the BJP‑Mahayuti. Meanwhile, at a workers’ conference in Pune, Chavan presented Sharad Lad with a letter appointing him State Secretary of BJP Maharashtra.
Chavan told the gathered crowd that the BJP‑Mahayuti government, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, remains committed to youth opportunities through education and startups. He urged all officials to work diligently over the next few days to campaign for the candidates. A local teacher union from Pune University applauded the move, hoping it would bring fresh leadership to the constituency.
With the two‑day visit over, the BJP now shifts focus to booth‑level mobilization and voter outreach in the weeks leading to the May 2024 MLC elections. The party expects to secure a majority in Pune Division if the campaign gains traction.
