Toyota Kirloskar Motor is set to bump its Bidadi output by 1 lakh units per year from early 2027, bringing the plant’s total capacity to 4.42 lakh cars annually. The new line will churn out a mix of models, with the Innova HyCross MPV slated to benefit the most.
Buyers who have been on the waiting list for the Innova or the new Glanza hatchback will feel the impact sooner. A 30‑percent increase in production capacity can shave months off the current lead time, making it easier to lock in a purchase without the long‑term pause that’s been a pain point.
TKM’s expansion isn’t limited to Karnataka. A second 1‑lakh‑unit plant is under construction in Bidkin, Maharashtra, slated to go live in the first half of 2029. Together, these two sites will put Toyota on a more competitive footing with rivals like Hyundai and Maruti, whose recent output hikes have already reduced their own delivery queues.
The company also rolled out a facelifted Glanza hatchback on October 14, priced from ₹6.99 lakh ex‑showroom. While SUVs are stealing market share, the Glanza’s lower price point and compact size still resonate with first‑time buyers and urban commuters, keeping hatchbacks relevant in a crowded segment.
Sabari Manohar, TKM’s EVP for sales, said the firm is keeping a close eye on raw‑material prices. If input costs climb, a modest price uptick could be inevitable, but the company will weigh timing and scale before passing it on to customers.
For buyers, the practical takeaway is that the 2027 Bidadi upgrade means tighter delivery windows and a broader selection of models right out of the box. Keep an eye on the launch of the new Glanza and the upcoming Innova HyCross variants, as they are likely to hit showrooms in the next 18 months.
