The Personnel Ministry, in a Saturday order, named 2010‑batch IAS officer Prakash Rajpurohit as Deputy Election Commissioner, succeeding Sanjay Kumar.
The order sets his tenure to run until 8 April 2030, giving him a full decade to steer the commission amid mounting calls for electoral transparency.
The same decree elevated 27 other civil servants to joint‑secretary rank, including Vivek Khare to the National Testing Agency, Mohammed Y Safirulla K to Health and Family Welfare, and Rajesh Malik to the Food Corporation of India.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet signed off on the reshuffle, which takes effect immediately; Rajpurohit is expected to assume duties at the Election Commission by next week.
