CCTV footage from October 5 shows a woman walking on the right side of a Kahilipara road when a scooter with two riders approached. The rider in the back reached for her green bag; she resisted, and the scooter accelerated, pulling her along the pavement for nearly 100 metres before the rider fled.
The incident has prompted the Guwahati Police Department to open a case under Section 378 of the Indian Penal Code. Officials say the footage will be shared with the state’s crime branch for investigation.
Police officials cited the lack of adequate street lighting and limited CCTV coverage as contributing factors. They pledged to increase patrols during peak hours and install additional cameras in the area.
The case is expected to be heard in the municipal court in early November, and the police have urged commuters to remain vigilant.
