Delhi Police filed an FIR on Tuesday against CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka after they entered the barricaded Jantar Mantar area, leading to the detention of 11 members.
The activists had breached the newly denotified protest zone to demand Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, the same day the government announced Jantar Mantar would no longer serve as a designated protest site.
A police officer confirmed the detained activists were taken to Jaffarpur Kalan Police Station in Dwarka district, where security was heightened after more CJP workers gathered.
CJP founder Dipke branded the incursion a reclaiming of Jantar Mantar and said the denotification would not curb their agitation; earlier that week Das and Ranka were released on a one‑year no‑breach condition.
Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar’s October 11 standing order now names Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground and CBD Ground as the new protest sites, a move that critics say dilutes the visibility of dissent at the capital’s political heart.
The FIR charges the activists under the Public Order Act and the case will be heard by the court next month, with the outcome expected to influence future protest rights in New Delhi.
