Kishtamma was harvesting millet on a Saturday morning when two men on a motorcycle approached her, feigning a request for directions. They then tried to snatch her 30‑gram gold mangalsutra.
The attackers, identified as Vadde Sailu of Mucherla and Aravind of Meenampally, both hail from Hathnoora mandal and have four prior theft convictions. Their motorcycle was seized by farmers, who held it until police arrived.
Kishtamma raised a cry that attracted nearby villagers, who chased the suspects and overpowered them. She struck them with a wooden log and reclaimed her necklace.
Jinnaram police arrived within minutes, detained the men and filed a First Information Report. The case has been forwarded to the local court for remand proceedings.
The incident rattled the community; a nearby farmer, Ramesh, said he had witnessed the assault and was relieved to see justice served.
