Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das presented a 24‑hour ultimatum to Delhi Police on Monday at Parliament Street station, demanding a date for a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar.
The two leaders highlighted the tightened security and road closures that have disrupted residents and businesses, citing the upcoming festivals.
Earlier this week, Delhi Police removed Jantar Mantar from the list of sanctioned protest sites, designating Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground as the new venues under a standing order issued on October 11.
The CJP’s call comes amid a broader campaign for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, whom the party accuses of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of voter rolls.
If Delhi Police fails to set a protest date within 24 hours, the party threatens to hold an unsanctioned demonstration, a move that could trigger a large police deployment.
The police are currently positioning over 30,000 officers and paramilitary personnel across the city in anticipation of potential clashes.
