The girl, who turned 17 that evening, left home at 5 p.m. to visit Kalkaji Mandir before heading to Aastha Kunj Park with a friend. They reached the temple at 5:45 p.m. and stayed until about 7 p.m., then crossed Gate No. 7 into the park to sit, eat chips, and continue to ISKCON later.
The encounter began when three men, aged between 30 and 35, approached them and slapped the friend. They claimed to be police, warned that park entry was prohibited, and seized the girls’ phones.
The men dragged the girl to a secluded, dark area of the park, brandishing a black‑coloured pistol and knives, and individually assaulted her. She was forced to lie down, threatened with a knife, and told not to raise an alarm.
After the assault, the men released the friend, returned the phones, and demanded the pair leave the park immediately. The girl later informed her friend, who called the police control room. Officers arrived and secured the scene.
All three accused were arrested and are now in police custody. The investigation is ongoing, and city officials are reviewing security protocols at Aastha Kunj Park.
The incident has rattled the local community: a neighbour remarked that the park’s “once‑safe” reputation was shattered, while the girl’s family has requested that the police keep her safe and provide counseling.
