Yokohama India announced that its GEOLANDAR X‑CV line will grow from 32 to 37 sizes, adding five new 16‑20‑inch options for crossover and premium SUVs.
The new sizes—215/65 R16, 205/55 R17, 215/55 R17, 235/65 R17 and 245/50 R20—cover a wide swath of the domestic market, from Tata Curvv and Jeep Compass to Mahindra XUV700 and Volvo XC60. This means owners of those models can now find a tyre that matches the exact width and aspect ratio the vehicle calls for, rather than settling for a close‑fit alternative.
Local production is a key selling point. With the five additions, Yokohama’s 37‑size portfolio will be manufactured entirely in India, keeping unit costs down. For a typical 205/55 R17, the retail price is around ₹3,200, roughly 10–12% cheaper than the nearest imported competitor. That price edge could translate into significant savings for fleet operators and private buyers alike.
Competitors like Bridgestone and Michelin currently offer 28–30 sizes in the 16‑20" SUV range, leaving a noticeable gap. Yokohama’s expanded lineup positions it as a one‑stop shop for owners of mid‑size to premium SUVs, reducing the need to juggle multiple tyre brands. It also gives the brand a stronger foothold in the high‑volume SUV segment that is projected to grow by 8% annually.
The expansion aligns with India’s local content push. By boosting the number of domestically produced sizes, Yokohama can meet the increasing demand for low‑tariff, locally sourced tyres under the 2026 duty‑reduction framework. This could help keep import duties low for the brand, keeping prices competitive.
The new sizes will roll out in the first quarter of 2027, with distribution starting in major metros like Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. Buyers should keep an eye on after‑sales performance and the brand’s upcoming launch of a run‑flat variant of the 235/65 R17, which could offer an extra layer of safety for high‑performance SUVs.
