The Campbell family announced in a press release that Penn’s Cave, the 1,400‑acre water‑cave park in Centre Hall, Pennsylvania, is on the market for $34 million, with offers opening in October 2024. The property, unique as North America’s only all‑water cave, has been a family‑owned attraction for 118 years. The listing is handled by Lusk and Associates Sotheby’s International Realty.
Since 1908, four generations of the Campbell family expanded the estate, acquiring surrounding land to protect the underground river that delivers up to 11 million gallons of clean water each day. The family’s environmental focus has preserved the limestone formations and the surrounding wildlife habitats. The park now includes a farm, wildlife park, and a 2,600‑foot private airstrip.
Governor Josh Shapiro said state officials are evaluating a purchase to incorporate the estate into the Pennsylvania state park system. Representative Kerry Benninghoff echoed concerns about potential loss of public access. Shapiro’s office has not yet committed to any bid.
The Campbells assured that public tours, animal care, and visitor programs will continue uninterrupted during the transition. ‘Continuing the experience we’re known for is our greatest priority,’ the family said in a joint release. Keeping the business running without disruption is its main priority.
Offers will be reviewed through December, with a decision expected by spring 2025. If a buyer is found, the property will be transferred under a sale agreement; otherwise, state officials may pursue acquisition.
