The INDIA Bloc, led by Congress, has formally requested a fresh audience with President Droupadi Murmu to hand over documents alleging vote theft in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, set for completion on July 31.
The SIR, meant to update voter lists, has faced criticism for potential manipulation, with opposition leaders warning that the exercise could be used to disenfranchise certain communities.
In addition to the meeting, the bloc announced plans for larger protests next month targeting Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, whom they accuse of facilitating the alleged irregularities.
Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress president, confirmed that the INDIA Bloc will hold a public impeachment of the CEC at his residence today, citing discrepancies uncovered during the SIR. He said the event aims to hold the election machinery accountable.
The presidential meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, and the protests are slated for the first week of August. The outcome of the meeting will determine whether the bloc can compel the Election Commission to investigate the allegations further.
