A woman in the midst of a long journey from Jagiroad to Dimou went into sudden labor while riding the 'Aideu Jaan' bus. The vehicle was traveling along the Guwahati-Dibrugarh route when she began experiencing severe contractions near Kaziranga. Driver Babul Borpatra immediately pulled over after hearing passengers shout for help inside the carriage.
There was no time to call for professional medical assistance in time. Borpatra and the other passengers sprang into action. Male passengers were asked to step out of the bus to provide the woman with privacy. Blankets and clothing were quickly arranged to create a makeshift barrier inside the vehicle. The group assisted the woman through the delivery process. The baby girl was born before an ambulance could reach the scene.
Borpatra and the others contacted emergency services as soon as the baby was out. An ambulance arrived and took the mother and the newborn to a nearby hospital. Medical staff reported that both the woman and the child are in stable condition.
The bus owner later intervened to provide immediate financial support. He gave the family Rs 5,000 to help them manage the initial costs. The incident highlights the unpredictable nature of long-distance travel in the region, where medical infrastructure can be far from immediate reach.
The family is expected to continue their journey once the mother recovers. No specific timeline was provided for when they will resume their trip to Dimou.
