On Thursday, the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee expelled former general secretary Kripa Alva for six years effective immediately, citing a show‑cause notice issued by KPCC Vice‑President M Narayanaswamy that she failed to respond to allegations of her involvement in a sting operation against Congress leaders.
Siddaramaiah, the former chief minister, named Alva as the mastermind behind a defamatory video that allegedly exposed the political head to sexual abuse. He secured a court injunction preventing the video from airing or being published, a decision that Bengaluru police later upheld, labeling the accusations as fabricated and deliberately constructed.
The KPCC’s statement said the controversy had embarrassed the party through negative publicity and media reactions. It added that Alva’s conduct amounted to anti‑party activities, and that the order was issued on the instructions of the Hon’ble KPCC President.
The ban will bar Alva from all party activities for six years, and she is expected to challenge the ruling in court if she chooses to do so. The case remains under scrutiny as party members and the public weigh the implications of the scandal.
